Kings of Leon is a rock band from Nashville, Tennessee, made up of three brothers, Caleb, Nathan, and Jared Followill and their cousin, Matthew Followill. They formed the band in 1999 and named it after their grandfather, Leon. Growing up in a strict religious household, the Followill brothers spent much of their childhood traveling around the Southern U.S. with their father, who was a preacher.

They weren’t allowed to listen to much popular music early on, but once they discovered rock, punk, and alternative sounds, they quickly fell in love with it. This mix of influences gave their music a raw and soulful edge. After their parents split up, the brothers settled in Nashville and started exploring different music styles, inspired by bands like The Rolling Stones and Thin Lizzy. They teamed up with songwriter Angelo Petraglia, who helped them sharpen their skills.

In 2003, Kings of Leon released their first album titled Youth & Young Manhood. This album has 12 songs on it that include "Red Morning Light," "Happy Alone," "California Waiting," "Happy Alone," "Dusty," and "Holly Roller Novocaine." This album brought them attention in the UK where they built a strong fanbase. The band released their second album titled Aha Shake Heartbreak in the UK in 2004 and 2005 in the US. This album has 13 tracks on it that include "Slow Night, So Long," "Taper Jean Girl," "The Bucket," "Soft," "Velvet Snow," "Where Nobody Knows." This album helped them begin to build their fanbase in the US.

Kings of Leon released their third album titled Because of the Times in 2007. This album has 13 songs on it that include "Knocked Up," "Charmer," "My Party," "Ragoo," "Camaroo," and "Arizona." This album debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. In 2008, they released their next album titled Only By The Night. This album has 11 tracks on it that include "Closer," "Crawl," "Revelry," "17," "Be Somebody," and "Cold Desert." This album was a huge success in the US.

In 2010, the band released their next album titled Come Around Sundown. This album has 16 songs on it that include "The End," "Pyro," "The Face," "Back Down South," "No Money," and Pickup Truck." This album was well received. kings of Leon released their next album titled Mechanical Bull in 2013. This album has 13 tracks on it that include "Supersoaker," "Rock City," "Wait For Me," "Family Tree," "On The Chin," and "Work On Me." This album continued to help the band grow their fanbase.

Kings of Leon released their next album titled Walls in 2016. This album has 10 songs on it that include "Waste A Moment," "Reverend," "Over," "Conversation Piece," "Eyes On You," and "Wild." This was a more personal and emotional album. In 2021, the band released their next album titled When You See Yourself. This album has 11 tracks on it that include "The Bandit," "Stormy Weather," "A Wave," "Supermarket," "Echoing," and "Fairytale." This album showed the band's continued growth. They released their latest album titled Can We Please Have Fun in 2024. This album has 12 songs on it that include "Rainbow Ball," "Mustang," "Split Screen," "Nothing To Do," "Ease Me On," and "Seen." This album proves the band found a balance between staying true to their roots and trying new things.

Kings of Leon has left a big mark on modern rock. They started with a raw, Southern garage rock sound, then became one of the biggest rock bands in the world with their stadium-filling songs. Over the years, they’ve inspired many other musicians while staying true to their own style. For over 20 years, Kings of Leon has managed to stay relevant in the ever-changing world of rock. Whether they’re playing gritty rock songs or heartfelt anthems, they remain one of the most influential bands in the industry.
