Today we are coving the San Diego duo, Little Hurricane. Known for their raw blend of dirty blues and indie vibes, this band has been making a name for themselves since 2010.
Made up of, Anthony “Tone” Catalano on vocals and guitar and, until recently, Celeste “CC” Spina on drums, the band has created a niche with their minimalist yet powerful sound.

Little Hurricane’s story is as gritty as their music. In 2010, Chicago-born Spina, a cook and bartender who’d taken an eight-year hiatus from drumming, posted an ad on Craigslist seeking like-minded musicians. Catalano, a former studio engineer from Santa Cruz with a background working with artists like John Paul Jones responded. Their connection was instant chemistry, by a shared love for blues, vintage gear, and their high school jazz band roots, they quickly began writing together.

“Homewrecker” was released in April 2011 on Unknown Breakthrough, setting them up for success. The album’s raw energy earned them three San Diego Music Awards that year, Album of the Year, Best Alternative Album, and Best New Artist. Tracks like “Haunted Heart” and “Get By” found their way onto TV shows such as “Gossip Girl” and “Revenge”, amplifying their reach. This would only be the beginning for the bands growth.

Over the years, Little Hurricane built a reputation for their live performances. Taking the stage at major festivals like Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, and South by Southwest. By 2015, they’d headlined tours across 11 countries, including Australia, France, and Germany. Their discography grew with “Stay Classy” (2013), a covers collection, and the album “Gold Fever” (2014), which hit the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart. In 2017, they signed with Mascot Records for the release of “Same Sun Same Moon”, an album reflecting their evolution as a married couple and their intent to weave positivity into their bluesy roots.

The duo’s personal and musical partnership deepened over time. Catalano and Spina wed, and in 2019, they welcomed a son, inspiring their album “Love Luck”. That same year, however, tragedy struck with the sudden death of Spina’s brother, adding emotional weight to their work. Their 2023 release, “Life Is But a Dream”, a children’s album featuring reimagined standards like “Wheels on the Bus,” showcased their versatility and family-focused shift.

In June 2024, Catalano announced a major change via the band’s Facebook page: Little Hurricane would no longer continue as a duo due to “different career goals.” Spina stepped away, and Catalano continues to perform as a trio with a new drummer and write new music.
