Emerging from Sydney in 2004, Wolfmother has solidified its place in the hard rock genre, driven primarily by the unwavering presence of vocalist and guitarist Andrew Stockdale. As the only constant member throughout multiple lineup changes, Stockdale has been central to the band's identity and ongoing evolution.

Wolfmother originally comprised Stockdale, bassist and keyboardist Chris Ross, and drummer Myles Heskett, who collectively captured attention for their distinctive sound. Their self-titled debut album, released in Australia in 2005, resonated well with audiences, reaching number 3 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart and eventually selling over 1.5 million copies globally after its international release in 2006 through Interscope and Island Records. When Ross and Heskett left, the band faced a central turning point in 2008. This prompted Stockdale to reinvent Wolfmother's lineup, introducing Ian Peres on bass and keyboards, rhythm guitarist Aidan Nemeth, and drummer Dave Atkins. This new formation saw the release of Cosmic Egg in 2009, which marked a shift in style as the band navigated changing commercial landscapes.

In the following years, Wolfmother encountered several personnel changes, which impacted both their musical direction and commercial success. Stockdale's much-anticipated third album, Keep Moving, was ultimately released as his solo debut in 2013, while the subsequent year brought another lineup change, leading to the independently released album New Crown with drummer Vin Steele.

2016 heralded the release of Victorious, which marked a return to a major label and featured drummer Alex Carapetis. This period reignited the band's visibility in the rock scene, even as Stockdale continued to assert Wolfmother's relevance amid ongoing transitions. His commitment remained evident with the release of his second solo album, Slipstream, in 2018.

Wolfmother's ascent began with a promising debut performance at Vic in the Park on April 14, 2004. Their burgeoning talent quickly caught Modular Recordings' attention, leading to the release of their self-titled EP, which peaked at number 35 on the ARIA Australian Singles Chart. The band embarked on a six-month tour to capitalize on their early success, culminating in an international recording deal with Universal Music Group.

Production for their debut album began in California in May 2005, with seasoned producer Dave Sardy at the helm. Sardy's minimalist approach aimed to capture the raw energy of Wolfmother's live performances, resulting in a full-length debut that debuted in Australia on October 31, 2005. The album's success was evident, as it remained on the ARIA charts for 78 weeks and achieved quintuple platinum certification from the Australian Recording Industry Association by the end of 2007.

As Wolfmother continues to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of rock music, it illustrates a compelling narrative of resilience, innovation, and evolution firmly anchored by Stockdale's dedication.

Recognized and recognized for its innovative approach, Wolfmother has emerged as a significant force in the rock scene. In 2006, they earned critical acclaim and multiple ARIA nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. With Stockdale leading the charge, the band has sustained a powerful presence rooted in a commitment to preserving its legacy.

Following substantial success in Australia, Wolfmother's self-titled debut album was released internationally in April 2006, peaking at number 25 on the UK Albums Chart and number 22 on the US Billboard 200. The album produced hit singles such as "Woman," which climbed to number 34 in Australia and reached number 31 on the UK Singles Chart before reaching seven on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. This track later earned the band a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards.

Another standout single, "Joker & the Thief," also garnered significant acclaim, securing a place in the top ten in Australia. Wolfmother's musical journey propelled them onto the international stage, featuring performances at renowned festivals like Fuji Rock in Japan and the Reading and Leeds Festivals in the UK. A memorable moment in their trajectory occurred on November 14, 2006, when the band honoured Led Zeppelin with a cover performance, further solidifying their reputation as rock innovators.
