Today we cover the band from the town of Ripon, California, French Cassettes. This mellow brew of indie rock started with two brothers rocking together. After forming a crew and settling on the name, the band was ready to go.

The first shows were a warm experience and helped build momentum around the band. In August of 2013, French Cassettes started releasing music on all the major platforms, beginning with the debut EP “Summer Darling.” Each release was another step on the ladder. However, I don’t believe French Cassettes worried much about the ladder. More concerned with sound and connecting with others, they delivered an exciting experience in a laid-back style. French Cassettes kept their focus on the music and fans.

The band's first album, Gold Youth, was also released in 2013, showcasing their style and launching them on tour. Driving a deeper connection with fans, the band released multiple lines of new merchandise, communicating and selling directly to the fans. In 2018, French Cassettes hit us with two singles, “City Kitty” and “Sunday Soda.” It is believed that shortly after that, the band began planning the 2020 album Rolodex.

On September 22, 2020, the band broke the silence with a single. The song “Utah” played on repeat in the minds of many, growing to six million streams, topped by the band's next single, “Santa Cruz Tomorrow.” These singles built the hype for the album Rolodex, which was rolled out on December 11, 2020, becoming the top two songs in the band's catalog. With the well-received album, the band hit the road, touring and performing through the Western United States. The creative writing and raw artistic direction of this band are incredible.

Jumping to 2024, after releasing multiple singles, French Cassettes released a new album, Benzene. The band has said they are very excited about this album. With a feeling of all their work over the past fifteen years coming together, the band is proud of this album. The art pours out of this band; the latest album Benzene smashes the boundaries of the indie rock sound, transcending with a well-built form of power-pop with outgoing themes of love and self-reflection, embodying an optimistic idea that life could be quite pleasant.
