Neal Francis is an American musician who sings, writes songs, and plays the piano. He loves classic rock, soul, and R&B, and you can hear that in his music. With his old-school sound, smooth singing, and amazing piano skills, he’s been making a name for himself by blending the best of the past with a modern twist. He was influenced by New Orleans legends like Dr. John, the Meters, and Allen Toussaint. Francis has gained a lot of attention as one of in the modern rock and soul revival scene.

Born Neal Francis O’Hara in Livingston, New Jersey, in 1988, Neal’s connection to music began at the early age of 4. From a young age, Francis showed he was a natural at music. He started playing the piano early on and had a knack for nailing the vibe of classic soul and R&B. As a teenager, he dove into the Chicago blues scene, jamming with different bands and sharpening his musical skills. He loved the funky, laid-back beats and catchy piano rhythms of New Orleans rhythm and blues, and this love really shaped him as an artist.

Before going solo, Neal Francis was a big name in Chicago’s music scene, especially as the lead of the funk band The Heard. He got a lot of experience playing at different clubs and festivals. Even though he was becoming well-known, he had a tough time with addiction, which hurt his career and relationships. Things almost fell apart for him, but in 2017, he turned his life around by getting clean. With a clear mind and new energy, he jumped back into music. His battles with addiction and his recovery became central themes in his songs, which now tell stories of his struggles, redemption, and spiritual growth.

In 2019, Neal released his first album titled Chances. This album has 8 tracks on it that include "This Time," "She's A Winner," "Changes, Pts. 1&2," "Can't Live Without Your Love," and "Put It In His Hands." Critics loved how he made old-school music feel fresh and exciting without it seeming too stuck in the past. His songs, which were emotionally honest and thoughtfully deep, really shined among other artists trying to bring back retro-soul vibes. Neal released his next album titled In Plain Sight. This album has 9 songs on it that include "Alameda Apartments," "Problems," "Sentimental Garbage," "Asleep," and "Say Your Prayers." His first album was all about his personal recovery, but In Plain Sight looks at bigger life questions, mixing deep feelings with a touch of humor.

Neal Francis released his next album Sentimental Garbage. This album has 7 tracks on it that include "Very Fine, Pts. 1&2," "Don't Want You To Know," "Strawberry Letter 23," and "Can't Stop The Rain - Parsonage Mix." This album was well received by fans and critics alike. In 2024, Francis released a Live album titled Francis Comes Alive (Deluxe Edition). This Live album has 15 songs on it that include the songs "Say Your Prayers," "Changes, Pt 1&2," "She's A Winner," "This Time," "Problems," "I'm Watching," and "How Have I Lived (Reprise)-Live. Neal Francis’ live shows are a blast of energy and skill. He rocks the piano with such joy that it’s contagious, and his band is super tight, often jamming out to show off their talents. His concerts feel like a tribute to the golden days of rock and R&B, mixing his own songs with covers of classics by The Band, Elton John, and The Rolling Stones. These performances have won him a lot of fans, and he’s toured all over the U.S. and Europe. His 2021 Newport Folk Festival gig was a big hit, making him even more of a must-see live performer.

His music blends the best of the past and present, making it feel both genuine and current. His personal and musical experience has been full of ups and downs, adding real emotional depth to his songs.
