The band with ties to Provo, Utah, and Los Angeles, California, is Sego. These guys have been on the scene for over a decade, delivering interesting tones. They come in as an indie rock band with psychedelic undertones and a complete art punk, rock-and-roll style.
The story of Sego begins with Spencer Petersen becoming a frontman, leading the band on guitar and vocals. He is backed by Thomas Carroll on percussion, creating a landscape of rhythm. The chemistry unveiled by this team is one of musical brilliance.
Both Spencer Petersen and Thomas Carroll are Utah natives, with Spencer growing up in the Mapleton area and Thomas spending his childhood in the town of Springville. The two joined forces in the Provo music scene, becoming members of “Eyes Lips Eyes.” The group found great support, performing at a string of venues across Utah. Chasing the musical dream, the Eyes Lips Eyes crew decided on a plan to relocate to Los Angeles, California.
After the relocation process, plans dissolved with the disbanding of Eyes Lips Eyes. This left Spencer and Thomas bandless in a new city. However, it did not stop the two from creating. Taking their time in a downtown LA warehouse, the duo began to write new material. Spencer took on the role of frontman, singing and playing guitar. After getting positive feedback on demos, they decided on the name Sego, inspired by the Utah state flower, the Sego Lily.

In 2014, Sego dropped their first EP, Wicket Youth, gaining traction in the Los Angeles music scene. Since then, the band has released a score of singles and EPs, and they have put out five full-length albums to date. Most recently, Sego released the album OH MY, a 28-minute-long experience. Eight new songs were added to the band's collection on August 8, 2024.
Sego has seen national recognition at SXSW, the annual music and film festival, where they performed on the main stage. Sego has broken a million plays with multiple songs on Spotify, and the band is starting to be well known outside of the USA as they continue to grow.
Over the years, the band has seen changes. Spencer and Thomas have introduced new members to the band, expanding creative possibilities and widening the sound of Sego. They brought in the talented Kathleen Frewin on keys and guitar, providing an intimate vibe to slower songs and boosting the band's psychedelic sound. Spencer and Thomas also brought on an incredibly talented bass player named Alyssa Davey, who provides depth and new rhythmic elements that are next level.
We have reached out to Sego, and they have agreed to come on our show, The Green Room. We will keep you posted on any updates.
