Becoming a iconic spot in nashville

(Venue Report)

Written by: Cody Denning

One name that always comes up when we talk about Nashville is The Basement. This place has been like a home to many Nashville bands like Jeff the Brotherhood and Fly Golden Eagle. Over the years, this venue has helped shape the careers of many bands.

The story begins in 2005 with Mike Grimes and Geoff Donovan. The two visionaries set out to provide a platform for local artists. It wouldn’t be long before the venue would be hosting six shows a week. Just six months after opening the doors, Dave Brown joined the team, expanding the business to two shows nightly and adding Sunday performances.

From 2005 to 2024, this venue has grown and expanded, becoming one of the best-known spots in Nashville with the crowd favorite “New Faces Night.” The venue still heavily supports local and underground “unsigned” artists. The Basement has become a stepping stone and tool, not only for Nashville artists but for artists all over the country.

It’s not only local bands that have taken the stage at The Basement. A massive list of heavy hitters have played this venue, including Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves, The Lumineers, and many others. They have even had secret pop-up shows and had the legendary Metallica take the stage.

This place is no joke… You honestly never know what you’re going to get when you head to The Basement, but you can always be sure of one thing: it’s going to be an excellent show. This has become a low-key place helping the rock and roll and music community birth new ideas and create memories.

In 2020, it was not only the pandemic that hit The Basement East. A tornado had touched down in East Nashville and hit The Basement East, leveling the front wall of the building and destroying anything in its path, resulting in 20 dead across the state. The venue has since recovered and is hosting shows in 2024.

So, if you’re ever in Nashville, stop by The Basement and catch a show. You won’t regret it. That’s it for this one. We will continue to highlight venues that bring life to the music community and keep you up to date on all our reporting on Soundwave Music Media.
