Surf Curse, an American indie surf rock band, has been making waves in the music scene since their formation in 2012. Originating from Reno, Nevada, and now based in Los Angeles, the band has created a unique place with their blend of surf rock and punk influences. The band was formed by Nick Rattigan (lead vocals and drums) and Jacob Rubeck (guitar) and was initially known as "Buffalo 66," the band quickly adopted the name Surf Curse, inspired by their love for surf culture and classic movies. Their early years were characterized by a DIY spirit, playing house shows and recording their music in a bedroom studio. Surf Curse was complete when Noah Kohll (guitar) and Henry Dillon (bass) joined the band.

In 2013, the band released an EP "Sad Boys." They also released their debut album titled Buds. This album has 10 songs on it that include "Chloe Kelly," "Bummer Friend," "In My Head Till I'm Dead," "Dreamin' Wild," "Freaks," and "Fire Walk With Me." The album quickly gained traction in indie circles, helping Surf Curse establish themselves in the underground music scene. Surf Curse released their second album titled Nothing Yet in 2017. This album has 9 tracks on it that include "Christine F," "Doom Generation," "Cronenberg," "All Is Lost," and " "Falling Apart." Nothing Yet was well-received by both fans and critics, solidifying Surf Curse's place in the indie music scene.

Surf Curse released their third album titled Heaven Surrounds You in 2019. This album has 12 songs on it that include "Maps to the Stars," "Disco," "Midnight Cowboy, "Hour of the Wolf," "Trust," and "Jamie." This marked a turning point for the band. The album’s success was bolstered by a more cohesive promotional strategy, including music videos, social media engagement, and extensive touring. A significant moment in Surf Curse's career came in 2020, when their 2013 song "Freaks" went viral on TikTok. The song resonated with a new generation of listeners, leading to over a billion streams on Spotify alone.

In 2022, the band released their fourth album titled Magic Hour. This album has 12 tracks on it that include "Arrow," "Lost Honor," "Self Portrait," "Little Rock 'n' Roller," "Fear City," and "Randall Flagg." he album saw the band returning to a more straightforward rock sound, incorporating elements of classic rock and punk while maintaining their distinctive style. Magic Hour received praise for its energetic production and lyrical depth, further cementing Surf Curse's place in the indie music landscape. The band embarked on a worldwide tour to promote the album, playing to sold-out crowds and expanding their reach even further.

Surf Curse has made a significant impact on the indie music scene over the past decade. Their DIY spirit, combined with their ability to grow and adapt, has earned them a devoted following and critical acclaim. They have been praised for their ability to blend nostalgia with contemporary sounds, creating music that feels both timeless and modern. The viral success of "Freaks" highlighted their cultural relevance and demonstrated their ability to connect with a new generation of listeners. Their music continues to be featured in various media, from TV shows and movies to online playlists, ensuring that their influence will be felt for years to come.
