On February 18, 2025, David Shaw, the lead singer of the New Orleans band The Revivalists, released a fresh take on his solo song "Take a Look Inside." This time, he teamed up with Jim James, the guy who fronts My Morning Jacket, another big name in rock music. Shaw put this version out through his own label, Yokoko Records, and it’s a real treat, deep, emotional, and packed with heart. It’s only been out for a few days, but people are already loving it. The song’s all about looking inside yourself, figuring out who you are, and dealing with life’s ups and downs.

"Take a Look Inside" first showed up as the main track on Shaw’s second solo album, which came out on October 4, 2024. He made it in a studio in New Orleans, a place he’s called home forever. Shaw said the song just poured out of him one day while he was messing around in his home setup. “I went to my studio, came up with the opening guitar part, added a beat and bass, then the chords,” he told a radio station last August. “The words came quick, and that was it—it’s like a photo of my life right now.”

The new "Take a Look Inside" keeps the simple, catchy vibe of the original—think easy guitar, a steady beat, and a bass that feels like a pulse. But with James, it gets a boost. His voice mixes with Shaw’s, adding these cool, harmonies that make it feel bigger and more emotional. Shaw still produced it, but you can hear little hints of James’ style, like the guitar bits that fans of the band would recognize.
