Bringing that Southern Rock from Tuscaloosa, Alabama

The Dexateens, from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, have established themselves as a formidable presence in the Southern rock scene. The band has consistently delivered a potent blend of rock and roll, blues, and soul, infused with authentic energy that sets them apart. The Dexateens were formed in 1998 by Elliott McPherson, John Smith, and Craig "Sweet Dog" Pickering and Matt Patton on bass. They drew inspiration from a mix of Southern Rock and Punk Rock creating a distinctive sound that would become their signature. The band's name came a guitar pick signed by Dexter Romweber, he signed the pick Dex and then ateens was added and it stuck and they became known as The Dexateens. Their early years were marked by a series of local gigs that helped them build a loyal following.

In 2004, the band released their debut self titled album. This album has 13 songs on it that include "Cardboard Hearts," "Cherry," "Settle Down," "Air We Breathe," "Still Gone," and "The Closer." This album showcased their talent and energetic performances and highlighted their ability to blend punk's frenetic energy with Southern rock's soulful melodies. The Dexateens released their second album titled Red Dust Rising in 2005. This album has 11 tracks on it that include "Pine Belt Blues," "Diamond In The Concrete," "Red Dust Rising," "That Dollar," "Take Me To The Speedway," and "Coal Mine Lung." This album marked a turning point, earning them critical acclaim and a wider audience.

The Dexateens released their third album titled Hardwire Healing in 2006. This album has 12 songs on it that include "Naked Ground," "Neil Armstrong," "Some Things," "What Money Means," "Outside The Loop," and "Fingertips." This album helped them continue to build their fanbase. In 2008, the band released their next album titled Lost and Found. This album has 9 tracks on it that include "Out On Your Own," "Enough of Nothing," "Slender Thread," and "You're Gonna Love Me." The Dexateens went on to release their next album titled Singlewide in 2009. This album has 13 songs on it that include "Down Low," "Caption," "Missionary Blues," "Hang On," "The Ballad of Souls Departed," and "Can You Whoop It." In 2010, the band went on a hiatus for the next 2 years.

After their 2 year break, The Dexateens released their next album titled Sunsphere. This album has 8 tracks on it that include "Come On Strong," "Calico," "Foxhole Rock," and "Do The Crawl." This album was named after the an observation tower that was built for World's Fair in 1982, located in Knoxville, Tennessee. In 2016, the band released their next album titled Teenage Hallelujah. This album has 14 songs on it that include "Old Rebel," "Treat Me Right," "Alabama Redneck," "Boys With Knives," "Red Bird Road," "Fellowship of The Saturday Night Brotherhood," "Down In The Valley," and "Seen It All Like A Mountain."

In 2020, The Dexateens released their first LIVE album titled Live From Athens Georgia-Heathens Homecoming 2020. This LIVE album has 14 songs on it "Settle Down," "Hard Lovin," "Anna Lee," "Makers Mound," "Grandaddy's Mouth," "Enough Of Nothing," and "Take Me To The Speedway." This Live album was an awesome treat to fans of the band. The Dexateens are a testament to the enduring power of Southern rock. As musicians, they're a story of passion, perseverance, and authenticity. With a discography that spans two decades, they have left an indelible mark on the music world, blending punk's raw energy with Southern rock's soulful storytelling. As they continue to make music, The Dexateens remain a vital force in contemporary music, a band that embodies the spirit of the South with every note they play.
