From Pennsylvania Coal Country to Hard Rock Powerhouse

(Artist Report)

Written By: Ginny Gaines

Crobot is from the blue-collar backbone of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, a place more known for coal mines than soaring guitar solos. Yet, from this small city emerges a band that blends hard rock muscle with stoner rock grooves and a dash of funk, creating a sound as potent as their signature name. It began in the 2011 when Brandon Yeagley, a guitarist with a fiery passion for rock n' roll, joined forces with Chris Bishop, a bassist equally driven by the genre's explosive energy. Together, they formed the foundation of Crobot, a name inspired by the Egyptian god of fertility – a fitting symbol for the sound they were about to unleash.

Their initial lineup was solidified by the addition of brothers Paul and Jake Figueroa. Sharing a love for similar styles, the Figueroa brothers brought their rhythmic skills on bass and drums, respectively. This early incarnation of Crobot self-released their debut EP, "The Legend of the Spaceborne Killer," in 2012. The EP, along with a music video for the title track, showcased their expansive sound – a blend of heavy guitar riffs and driving rhythms that hinted at the sonic explorations to come.

The band signed with Wind-up Records in 2013. At the "ShipRocked" music festival at sea on February 2-6, 2014, Crobot played Limp Bizkit, Black Label Society, Buckcherry, and fellow Wind-Up Records band Filter. In the spring of the same year, the band went on tour in Europe and the US. In October 2014, Crobot released their first studio album titled Something Supernatural. This album has 12 tracks on it that include "Legend Of The Spaceborne Killer," "Nowhere To Hide," "Cloud Spiller," "Wizards," and "Queen Of The Light." This album was very well received and showed the bands musical capabilities.

In September 2016, the band released their send album titled Welcome To Fat City. This album has 11 songs on it that include "Play It Cool," "Hold On For Dear Life," "Right Between The Eyes," and "Moment Of Truth." This album highlights the band's growth and ambition. However, the band wasn't content to remain static. In 2017, they underwent a lineup shift. The Figueroa brothers departed, and Crobot welcomed Dan Ryan on drums and James Alexander Lascu on bass. These new members added a fresh dynamic, propelling the band towards a heavier, more groove-oriented sound.

Crobot decided to sign with Mascot Records in 2018. The band released their next album titled Motherbrain in August 2019. This album has 11 tracks on it that include "Burn," "Keep Me Down," "Gasoline," and "After Life." This album received critical acclaim and brought the band to a wider audience. In June 2022, the band released their album titled Feel This. This album has 12 songs on it that include "Electrified," "Set You Free," "Better Times," "Never Break Me," and "Staring Straight Into The Sun."

Crobot's ability to blend classic rock influences with a modern sensibility has positioned them as torchbearers for the new generation of rock bands. Their commitment to their craft and their relentless pursuit of musical excellence has earned them a place among the most respected and beloved bands in contemporary rock. They continue to push boundaries, incorporating new influences while staying true to their hard-rocking roots. Crobot is a band to watch, a force poised to leave its mark on the hard rock landscape for years to come.

Crobot has a new album dropping in September 2024. Soundwave Music Media will bring you updates as they become available.
