"Rock and roll aint no simple thing"

In 2004, Ewan Currie, Ryan Gullen, and Sam Corbett began playing music together while attending the University of Saskatchewan. Sam had a bass guitar and a musical certificate that he took to a music store and rented a drum kit. It was in the basement at Sam's parent's home, with Sam on drums, Ryan playing the bass, and Ewan playing the guitar that he had recently bought.

The trio started with a collection of 1970's blues-rock songs along with some newer music. They covered bands like Black Keys and Kings Of Leon, but they were also writing their own music as well. They called themselves The Breaks.

The trio met Leot Hanson in 2006 at a party where he was playing acoustic guitar and covering a song from Youth & Young Manhood by Kings of Leon when the trio joined in. Leot decided to join the band the next day, and that was when they changed their band name to The Sheepdogs.

The Sheepdogs released their first independent album, titled Trying to Grow, in 2006. This album was recorded at Cosmic Pad Studios in Saskatoon. Two years later, The Sheepdogs went back to Cosmic Pad Studios to record their second album, Big Stand. The first two records were small endeavors, featuring artwork contributed by friends and family and was mixed by the band themselves.

In 2010, the band recorded their third album themselves using their own equipment. This gave them the ability to venture out with new sounds and techniques. This allowed them to explore the psychedelic rock of the 1960s. This album was called Learn & Burn. Songs from this album included "Feeling Good," "I Don't Know," and "Please Don't Let Go."

The Sheepdogs were the first unsigned act to beat 15 competitors to win Rolling Stone Magazine's contest for "Choose the Cover." They were featured on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine on August 18, 2011. The band released in 2011, Five Easy Pieces EP, and it debuted at #7 on the Canadian Albums Chart. During this exciting time, The Sheepdogs signed with Alantic Records.

In 2012, the Sheepdogs went to work on their next album, that Patrick Carney of The Black Keys would produce at Haptown Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. This brought much attention internationally, and with that, the band went on a lengthy tour in Canada and overseas throughout 2012 and 2013. They performed at many venues during this time, including Coachella Music Festival, Lollapalooza, Bonaroo, Edgefest, Glastonbury, and Ottawa Bluesfest. Also happening on this tour, Ewan Currie's younger brother, Shamus Currie, joined The Sheepdogs.

The band, in 2013, was nominated for three Juno awards. They were Single of the Year, Rock Album of the Year, and Group of the Year. The Sheepdogs also performed live at the 2013 Juno Awards in Regina, Saskatchewan. The band performed live on TV at the CFL's 101st Grey Cup on November 24, 2013, and the The Sheepdogs would see their hometown team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, beat the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

March 2014 brought The Sheepdogs another Juno honor. The Sheepdogs, along with director Matt Barnes, won the Juno Award for Video of the Year for "Feeling Good." The band also had the fortune of paying tribute to and inducting Bachman Turner Overdrive into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. The Sheepdogs and BTO performed the songs "Let It Ride" and "Takin’ Care of Business" live on the Juno Award broadcast. LeotHanson decided to leave the band in July 2014. The band's friend and guitarist, Rusty Matyas, joined and would remain with them through the fall of 2015.

The Sheepdogs released their fifth album, Future Nostalgia, on October 2, 2015. This album was engineered by Matt Ross-Spang and produced by lead singer and songwriter Ewan Currie. It was recorded at a cottage that was rented in Stony Lake, Ontario. The reason this particular place was chosen, according to Ewan, was "We wanted to cut out all the noise and get back to a place where we could just fully immerse ourselves in music." This album has 18 tracks on it, which include "I'm Gonna Be Myself," "Downtown," and "Jim Gordon." Jimmy Bowskill, who is an award-winning blues guitarist, joined the Sheepdogs in November 2015.

In 2016, the band received yet another nomination for Juno Rock Band Of The Year. Once Future Nostalgia was finished, the Currie brothers decided to create a side project. This project was called The BROS. The duo released their debut album on October 14, 2016, titled Vol.1, via Dine Alone Records.

The Sheedogs released the album Changing Colours in February 2018. This album has 17 songs on it, including "Nobody," "Saturday Night," and "Let It Roll." To promote this album, the band would be touring throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States, playing more than 200 shows.

In 2019, the band was once again nominated for two Juno awards. They were "Group of the Year"and "Rock Album of the Year." Also, on March 29, 2019, Warner Music released a solo album recorded by Ewan Currie titled Out of My Mind.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic coming along in March of 2020, The Sheepdogs had to cancel their tours and live performances. From Montreal, Quebec, on July 1, 2020, the band was able to participate in CBC Canada Day with a live performance. As the old saying goes, where there is a will, there is a way. And The Sheepdogs found a way. Through the summer and fall of 2020, the band did drive-in performances in Ontario. They also played to hotel balconies via a concert series in Regina, Saskatchewan.

While the pandemic was still going on in 2021, The Sheepdogs once again found a way to keep their music and talent going. The band built a temporary TV studio so they could record a video for every song on the album they were working on. By November 2021, venues were once again permitted to operate at full capacity. Lee's Palace in Toronto announced that The Sheepdogs would be performing live on November 17-20, 2021. All four shows were sold out.

The Sheepdogs had these four sold-out shows recorded, which would lead to the release of their first live album in February 2022. That would be the first live album for the band. This live album has 12 songs on it, including "Rock And Roll (Ain't No Simple Thing)," "Who," and "Downtown." The Sheepdogs went on a tour in the spring of 2022, performing in the UK, Europe, and North America with almost 100 dates. In June 2022, the band released their album, Otta Sight. This record had 11 tracks, including "Here I Am," Carry On," and "So Far Gone." In December 2022, The Sheepdogs released their first Christmas song, “I’m Ready For Christmas.”

The band ended their Live and Outta Sight tour in January 2023. The band was once again nominated for a Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year.

The Sheepdogs have been rocking and rolling for nearly two decades, and we cannot wait to see what they have in store for us in 2024 and beyond!
