BROS (Not to be confused with the Bros from Camberley, United Kingdom}
BROS, is a side project of the two brothers from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Ewan and Shamus Currie, known best for their work in the band “The Sheepdogs.”
Ewan Currie has served as the frontman and chief songwriter for the Canadian rock group The Sheepdogs since its inception in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, back in 2004. His brother Shamus joined the ensemble as a touring member in 2012, later becoming a full-fledged member during the recording of their fifth album, "Future Nostalgia," in 2014.
During the winter of 2014, the two brothers relocated from Saskatoon to Toronto, embarking on multiple songwriting sessions, Their aim was to explore various musical genres aligned with their personal tastes, spanning from classic funk and power pop to the psychedelic Latin vibes of Os Mutantes.
Together, they recorded a album that would become known as Vol.1. With co-production helmed by Thomas D'Arcy at his Taurus Recording studio. Vol.1 was released in 2016, "Tell Me" was the debut single released from this album and would be the theme song for the CBC Radio program when Tom Power began hosting in August 2016.
In 2017, for the holidays the BROS released a two sided single titled "A Very Bros Christmas". The songs were "It’s Christmas Day" and "These Things Comfort Me".
Notably, the album, Vol.1 has over one million streams, attesting to its resonance with audiences. The song "Scooby Doobie" has quite a funk sound and a groovy vibe! It seems this set of brothers are full of good music. But they didn’t stop with there.
BROS knew they wanted to do a second album and they wound up working on Vol.2 for two years alongside producer/engineer Thomas D’Arcy in Toronto, This venture to broaden their musical horizons with a 2nd album. They welcomed a diverse array of collaborators, including a horn section, tabla drummer, Sheepdogs guitarist Jimmy Bowskill, and their father Neil Currie on piano. On July 16, 2021, the BROS release their second album Vol.2, a 13 track album.
They released two singles from Vol.2 "Garbanzo" and "Never Gonna Stop". Other songs include "It's Killing Me.” The BROs will have you moving with this groovy album. "It Won't Be Long" and "Crazy Schemes" are all very fun songs and the fan favorite from Vol.2 “Calm Casino” witch has sounds reminiscent of the great Ray Charles. This album has a vast perspective of psychedelic, vintage and soulful sounds.
The BRO are always investigating new ways to push their creative bounds, bring in classic sounds with modern twist. Innovating new grooves and impressing audiences all over the world. Stay tuned for what’s next from these two brothers. Look out for them with their main project The Sheepdogs.
