Rock and Roll From Oklahoma

Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to shine a spotlight on the one and only JD McPherson. Born and raised in rural southeastern Oklahoma, this musician extraordinaire has been dishing out killer tunes since his high school days, where he strummed his guitar and penned his own songs. With a life filled with punk rock and a passion for music that burned deep within his soul, McPherson has earned his stripes and proven that dedication pays off in spades.

But let's take a moment to appreciate the unique backdrop of his upbringing. Growing up in the middle of nowhere gave McPherson an opportunity to fully immerse himself in the world of music. Without the distractions of a bustling city, he dove headfirst into his musical pursuits, devouring every bit of knowledge he could find. And you know what? It was the sweet sounds of 1950s rock and roll, inspired by the legendary Buddy Holly, that really struck a chord with him. Even now, those influences can be heard in his captivating songs.

But McPherson is more than just a musician. He's a man of many talents. After studying visual arts in college and earning a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Tulsa, he decided to share his artistic wisdom as an art and technology teacher. However, the bureaucratic red tape couldn't contain his creative spirit. He made the bold choice to trade in hall passes for his trusted guitar strap, embarking on a musical journey that would soon take him to soaring heights.

And oh, how he soared. McPherson caught the attention of Jimmy Sutton, a producer from the independent label Hi-STYLE Records, specializing in roots music. Impressed by McPherson's talent, Sutton agreed to produce his debut album. Released in 2010, "Signs and Signifiers" showcased McPherson's unique sound and garnered widespread acclaim. Even Rolling Stone took notice, awarding the album 3 and a half stars and christening McPherson as an "Artist to Watch." High praise, indeed.

Since then, JD McPherson has been on a roll, making waves in the music industry. In 2015, he flexed his producing skills by working on The Cactus Blossoms' album "You're Dreaming." He also lit up the stage at the illustrious Glastonbury Festival in the Netherlands and made a cameo in animated form on Netflix's "The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show." But perhaps one of his greatest triumphs was joining forces with music legends Robert Plant and Alison Krauss on their Raise the Roof tour in 2022. Talk about rubbing elbows with greatness!

So, keep your eyes peeled and your ears wide open for the musical marvel that is JD McPherson. From his humble beginnings in rural Oklahoma to his undeniable talent and accomplishments, this guy is proof that true artists can forge their own path, no matter where they come from. With each strum of his guitar and every electrifying performance, McPherson continues to captivate audiences and solidify his place in the music pantheon. Remember the name, folks, because JD McPherson is just getting started on his journey to rock and roll greatness.
