
The inevitable comeback of New Jersey band The Happy Fits
Let’s jump into Monday talking about indie rock band, The Happy Fits. These guys are from Pittstown, New Jersey and they burst onto the scene in 2016 with sound paved a path of success.
Lead vocalist and cellist, Calvin Langman, teamed up with guitarist Ross Monteith to form the band. They were later joined by the talented Luke Davis on drums, and together they released their debut EP, Awfully Apeelin'.
You won't believe this, but the band's track "While You Fade Away" blew up on Spotify's Fresh Finds playlist. It went from under 1,000 listens to over 39,000 in no time! It even climbed to #5 on the Top 50 Viral USA Spotify chart and #17 on the Spotify’s Top 50 Viral Global Charts. If they did look back from there it was because they missed the exit for there next tour stop.
The band members saw this as a sign from the music gods and decided to drop out of college to pursue their passion full-time.
In 2018, The Happy Fits dropped their debut album, Concentrate, with this musical delivery highlighting the bands full sound and rock and roll style The guys knew this was the right move and push they would need to farther their success in the streaming world. After this release they went on to tour and wow audiences.
Fast forward to 2020, and the band was amped and ready to hit the road with some new tunes planned for release and many tour dates filling there schedule. The familiar stories of COVID-19 set backs and surprises threw a wrench in their plans. Their tour got cancelled. The world rocked by the grim, these guys didn't let that stop them. They shifted their focus to their social media presence and started doing weekly livestreams on YouTube. Always finding a way to connect with their fans sometimes even sharing unprecedented experiences with the growing movement for the happy fits.
Along came August, that summer of 2020, they finally released their long-awaited second album, What Could Be Better. After rumbling around between sources and contributing journalists we found this album had revived high marks from many. it's one of the best albums of the year 2020, according to Fresh Air's Ken Tucker and multiple other independent press outlets wrote articles praising the record.
Remaining to feel growth and reach wider audiences then in previous years, The happy fits became more and more eager to come out of the COVID pandemic and back on the scene. Enormous amounts of excitement rising as the band was green lighted to prep for a new tour.An explosion of events off stops and tour stops booked the band into 2022
Engaged and ready, the band broke news that they had been working on a new album working it’s way out of the musical labs.
In August of 2022 The Happy Fits new album Under The Shade Of Green had found its way to the people all over the world and was getting wonderful feedback in the press In a album review post by Square One Magazine, Square One reported “With six months spent on this album’s creation, Under The Shade Of Green immediately stands out from the rest of The Happy Fits’ discography”.
2023 the guys released a full cut of a live album titled Live At The Troubadour. This album has done well since it’s released date. Over the course of the time the bad had been experiencing some internal issues. In a article wrote on November 3rd 2023 by Amanda Wu of Cleveland OH outlet The Observer. We now will highlight what you want to highlighted some of the things said in The Observers report.
Monteith and Davis stepped out of the 2023 fall tour due to personal health concerns. The cellist did not “Dance Alone,” however, whirling around the stage with fellow musicians Nicole Rosey, Raina Mullen and Trevor Hogan. The band covered nearly half of the country, performing in 23 states ranging from Maine to California to, of course, Ohio.
The setlist featured throwbacks from their 2018 “Concentrate”, including heavy-hitters such as “Best Tears,” “Mary” and “Heart of a Dancer.” From their 2020 album, “What Could Be Better,” The Happy Fits declared that there were truly “No Instructions” with music—just to let loose and keep on “Moving.”
Their most recent album was a response to the seemingly endless onslaught of catastrophic events and crises in modern society. It invited listeners to share and vent their frustrations about the state of the world.
folks, here comes the biggest news in this article and it gets heavy…. On January 24th, 2024 founding member Ross Monteith announced he's leaving the band. The remaining members of The Happy Fits have decided that moving forward and maintaining the band is priority. They've brought on Nicole Rosenbach and Raina Mullen as new members. No strangers to the stage, these ladies having toured alongside Langman and Davis in the past. The band will never be the same with out Ross, but. The bands dedication and adaptability seems to be posing them for quite the comeback. We can surly expect them to express and new chapter of sound for the band and we already know they will continue to travel and fleet expectations for there fans.
So there you have it, Despite Covid 19 and Rocky run-ins with health issues in leadership. The come back is inevitable and The Happy Fits are here to stay.
