Rett Smith began his musical career unlike many. Born Garrett Wayne Smith in 1988, his early life was shaped by the rugged landscapes of West Texas and New Mexico and the competitive world of alpine skiing. As a young exceptional athlete, Smith represented his country at international competitions, his life seemingly destined for a path of athletic fame. However, a career-ending injury would lead him down a significantly different route. After retiring from skiing, Smith turned to music for comfort. He taught himself to play guitar, using it as a new way to channel his competitive nature. Discovering Americana and blues in the local music scene shaped his early songwriting. His lyrics often explored themes of loss, loneliness, and the difficulties of human relationships, inspired by his own life experiences.

Smith's breakthrough came in 2015 with the release of his debut EP titled Tularosa. This EP has 6 tracks on it that include "One Block Bar," "Warmest Winter," "Lucky Strike," and "Two Headed Dog." This critically acclaimed EP showcased his songwriting skills and powerful vocals. The EP's success led to extensive touring and appearances at major music festivals. in 2016, Rett released a second EP titled Oscuro. This EP has 4 songs on it that include "Take You" and "Broken Heart and T.B.I." Rett Smith and Daniel Sousa formed a duo called SAENTS in 2017. They released a self titled EP that has 5 tracks on it that include "Lay Me" and "Hallelujah and Do-Si-Do". This quite a cool EP!

In 2020, Rett released his debut solo studio album titled Giving Up On Quitting. This album has 9 songs on it that include "Corner Kisses," "Southbound 25," "Rattlesnakes," "Hardship Highways," "Running Red Lights," and "Santa Fe. The album has a more refined sound, showing how much the Smith has grown both personally and artistically. This was a well produced album that features a mix of alt-country and rock, with themes of perseverance, redemption, and self-acceptance. Rett released his next album titled What The Walls Cannot See in 2021. This album has 7 tracks on it that include "Pick Up The Pieces," "Nickel In my Well," "Ego Wins," "The Hook," and "Let's Run." This album was well received and helped Smith continue to build his fanbase.

Smith released his next album titled A Nightly Consequence. This album has 10 songs on it that include "Something Sacred," "Nothing Is Ever Free," "Nothing Is Ever Free," "Mother's Bed," "Take Me On," "Run It Back," and "New York City (Made Us Lovers). This album showed his ability to attract new fans across different genres. In September 2024, Rett released his latest album titled A Weighted Remorse. This album has 9 tracks on it that include "7 Train," "East Broadway Dash," "Pay The Piper," "4am Go-Round" and "Stop Signs." Please check it out.

In the Texas music community, he's respected for his talent, dedication, and hard work. As he grows as an artist, it's clear that he's destined for greatness. His mix of talent, passion, and authenticity has won over many fans, and his future looks very promising.
