"This Duo brings some Rock and Blues from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada"

Today, we are talking about the band Wide Mouth Mason. The band formed in 1995 with original members Shaun Verreault (lead vocals, guitar), Safwan Javed (percussion, backing vocals), and Earl Pereira (bass). However, Earl left the band in 2010 and was replaced by Gordie Johnson, who also later left the band to pursue other interests. Wide Mouth Mason is now a duo with Shaun and Safwan.

In 1996, the band released their first independent album titled The Nazarene. They decided to remake the album and add some more tracks at Greenhouse Studios. Warner Music Canada took notice and signed them. Wide Mouth Mason then released the album as their debut album in 1997.Songs from this album include "Midnight Rain," "My Old Self," and "This Mourning." In 1998 at the Juno Awards the band was nominated for "Best New Group." This album reached Gold status in Canada.

Wide Mouth Mason released their second album Where I Started in 1999. Songs from this album include "Why," "Alone," and "Companion-Lay Me Down." This album also reached Gold status in Canada. In 2000, the band released their third album Stew. This album has 13 tracks that include "Who's There," "She's Alone," and "Smile." In 2001, at the Juno Awards, this album was nominated for Best Rock Album. Also in 2001, the band supported AC/DC on their Stiff Upper Lip tour.

Their fifth album, Rained Out Parade was released in 2002. This album had a real bluesy sound and has 14 songs on it. The songs include "Bootlegging," "My New Self," and "Come Out And Go." This album was also nominated for Rock Album of the Year at the Juno Awards in 2003. Wide Mouth Mason changed record labels and signed with Curve Music in 2004. The Band released their next studio album in 2005 titled Shot Down Satellites. This album has 13 songs on it that include "I Love Not Loving You," "Unfolding," and "Everybody's Right." You can really feel the hard rock vibe from this album.

Wide Mouth Mason's music is characterized by its blend of genres. They draw heavily from blues and rock, with significant funk and soul influences. Shaun Verreault's slide guitar technique is a hallmark of their sound, giving their music a raw, rootsy feel. Lyrically, their songs often explore themes of love, life, and introspection, delivered with a sincerity and depth that resonates with listeners.

The band was opening for ZZ Top while on tour in 2011. Wide Mouth Mason released their next album in 2011 titled No Bad Days. This album has 12 songs on it that include "More Of It," "Get A Hold Of You," "Only A Secret If You Keep It," and "Sweet Little Thing." The album was well received and had a real soul and psychedelic sound and feel to it. The band did not release another album for several years.

Wide Mouth Mason released their next album titled I Wanna Go With You in 2019. The songs on this album include "Bodies In Motion," "Every Red Light," "Anywhere," and "High Road." This album has a real bluesy but yet gritty sound. It was very well received. The band released their latest album titled Late Night Walking in September 2023. This album has 10 songs on it that include "Habitual," "Long Distance Love," "You Pushed Me," and "My Old Mistakes." This album has shown this band is still rocking and one can only imagine they will be back with some new music. They just visited Nashville and had a great time!
